What is the cost of impacted wisdom tooth or teeth removal in Scarborough ON?

Esquire Dental Centres dentists explain the impacts and the cost of wisdom tooth removal.

Scarborough ON area patients who have been told they have impacted wisdom teeth are often concerned with removal with dental surgery. Drs. Ashraf, Mark, and Amir Awadalla of Esquire Dental Centres are available to assist patients with their dental needs. When impacted teeth become a problem, they can provide oral surgery to help.

What is an impacted wisdom tooth?

An impacted wisdom tooth is a third molar that is unable to erupt through the gum line or which faces the wrong direction and becomes “stuck” underneath the gums. When this happens, patients may experience discomfort that can only be addressed by removing the tooth. There are no worries in removing the third molars, as they are the last to erupt and are not necessary for a healthy mouth. In fact, some wisdom teeth that do erupt through the gum line may be so far back in the mouth that they are difficult to brush and floss – therefore putting the smile at risk for periodontal disease and cavities. Removing the teeth can be a sound decision for most adult patients.

What is the cost of wisdom tooth removal?

The cost of this treatment varies due to several factors:

  • How many teeth are being removed?
  • Does the tooth need to be cut in pieces to be removed?
  • Is a surgical or simple extraction required?
  • What anesthetics and sedation are used during the procedure?

When patients are faced with wisdom teeth removal, they need to have a conversation with their dentist during the initial evaluation and consultation appointment. During this time, they can ask questions about the overall expected cost and any other concerns patients have about their procedure. Some patients may choose to have other dental work done at the same time they have their wisdom tooth addressed.

Is wisdom tooth removal painful?

The idea of removing a natural tooth from the mouth may sound like something no one wants to go through. However, with the use of proper anesthetics and sedation, patients are comfortable throughout the procedure. There may be some discomfort for a few days following the procedure, but many patients are not bothered by this. The benefits of removing the wisdom tooth far exceed the aftereffects, which may last a day or two.
