Dentist capabilities that you can trust

Replacing missing or failing teeth bolsters confidence, restores healthy chewing and speech function, and prevents, halts, or reverses the effects of destructive bone loss.

The “magic” of dental implants is in their design. Implants are designed to mimic the structure of tooth roots. In doing so, implants also imitate the function and action of tooth roots.

So, not only do they provide a stable and healthy base for attached prosthetic teeth, but they also keep the supportive tissues in the jaw stimulated. This process helps to keep the bone strong and dense. Bone loss is avoided or resolved promptly.

What to expect when replacing teeth with implants

If you, alongside our dentists, determine that implant-supported restorations are appropriate, the implants will be positioned precisely in the jawbone. This is a straightforward and well-tolerated in-office procedure. We will walk you through everything to expect before, during, and after treatment.

The total number of implants necessary to rebuild your smile depends on your specific needs. For instance, one implant can support or stabilize a dental crown for patients missing a single tooth. More implants are necessary to support additional prosthetic teeth, either as a bridge or denture (“overdenture”). Due to modern techniques, a minimal number of implants can be applied to stabilize a maximum number of prosthetic teeth.

Generally, the prosthetics are attached or connected to the implants after several months. Each implant must “osseointegrate” or otherwise join and fuse to the jawbone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement teeth. This process takes time. It is both a natural and safe step toward completing your beautiful, healthy, and functional smile. The implants themselves are made from biocompatible materials, such as titanium, designed to integrate with living tissues. They are quite literally compatible with biological tissues.

Options for many smiles

There are some “twists” to this process. For example, we may be able to immediately place a provisional denture during the same appointment as your extractions. In addition, we may be able to “retrofit” existing dentures with implants – no more loose, ill-fitting, and uncomfortable “false teeth”!

We can further discuss your specific options for treatment during a consultation at one of our three convenient Toronto-area locations.
