Straightening teeth is more than just a cosmetic solution to an imperfect smile. Straighter teeth are easier to clean and ensure proper wear and tear, as improper alignment of the teeth can cause breakage or wearing of the natural tooth enamel. At Esquire Dental Centres, our professionals in North York work with patients to help them understand the options available. While traditional metal bracket-and-wire braces have been used for decades to straighten teeth, patients now have alternatives they can consider. This includes orthodontic aligners, which allow patients to straighten their teeth with a practically invisible solution. At Esquire Dental Centers, Drs.Amir Awadalla, and Mark Awadalla are excited to offer affordable braces for adults looking to achieve their dream smiles!
How Do Orthodontic Aligners Work to Straighten the Smile?
Orthodontic aligners are clear plastic aligner trays customized to fit over the teeth. These trays gently and gradually move the teeth into the correct position. Aligners are usually worn for 22-24 hours daily and should be removed only when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Most people will need to wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series.
The number of aligners needed will depend on the severity of the dental issue being treated. In general, simple issues may require as few as 12 aligners, while more complex cases may require upwards of 48.
Your orthodontist can show you how many trays you may need in your series based on images of your teeth in their current positions.
