What can I expect during orthodontic treatment?

We’ll take digital X-rays and photos of your smile to devise a customized treatment plan with braces or Invisalign aligners.
The first week can take some getting used to. You might feel mild soreness, and your cheeks or lips may need time to adjust to the brackets. An easy-to-chew diet and over-the-counter pain relievers can ease discomfort.
Every 4–6 weeks, you’ll visit your North York dentist for check-ups. For braces, the dentist tightens or changes wires or bands to gradually guide your teeth into place. For Invisalign, the check-up is much simpler and is more of a progress visit.
Although patients vary, many achieve their desired results within 6-24 months. Compliance with treatment and care instructions helps keep things on track. After orthodontic treatment, you’ll wear a retainer as instructed—usually full-time at first, then at night. Retainers are essential to prevent teeth from shifting back.
