The first and most well-recognized of these aligner therapies is Invisalign®, made from a cutting-edge, flexible, transparent, smooth, and removable thermoplastic. They also don’t rub up against the inside of the mouth and delicate tissues. Our patients don’t have to worry about learning to speak, eat, brush, and floss with these oral appliances. They can simply remove the appliance to continue enjoying their favourite foods and to keep their teeth and gums healthy with good and consistent oral hygiene practices.
The process
The “magic” of this option is the ability of the aligners to place gentle forces on the teeth consistently to reposition the teeth into proper alignment. As a technologically-advanced solution, we can create a three-dimensional model of your mouth. Using this model, we will fabricate the aligners and show you how the clear aligners straighten your teeth.
You will be provided with the aligners and instructions on how to wear and care for them. Generally, patient compliance is essential to ensure treatment stays on track. That means you will only remove the aligners when eating and cleaning your teeth and gums. Also, you will need to wear the aligners in the correct order. Treatment involves a series of aligner trays. Each tray is associated with a different step in your treatment and should be worn for one to two weeks, as advised by your dentist. The total number of aligners required to straighten your teeth (or bite) depends on the type and extent of your condition that needs to be corrected. Total treatment time may be completed in as few as six months.
